Short-Rowed Poncho with Fringe

Size: fits most adults

Gauge: 4 stitches and 6 rows per inch

Machine: LK150 try TD6, Brother 260 try TD4, Bond, use KP3

Yarn: any good quality worsted (4-ply, Aran) weight, about 740 grams

Method: (make 2)

Using main yarn, e-wrap cast on needles 49 & 50 (for the fringe) at the left side of the needle bed, also 39 & 40.

Knit one row to the left.

Increase one stitch at the right on this and every alternate row until needle 40 on the right has a stitch on it.

Knit 40 rows even, ending with carriage on the left.

Set carriage to hold, pull to hold the last working needle on the right.

Knit 2 rows, and repeat until 3 needles including the 2 for the fringe remain in work. End with carriage on the left.

Reverse short-row by returning one needle to work every two rows until all are back in work.

Knit 40 rows.

Decrease one stitch on the right by transferring the stitch on the 2nd needle to the end needle, then moving them both to the left to fill the empty one.

Repeat every time the carriage is on the left until 3 needles remain in work. End with carriage on the right.

Drop the 2 stitches for the fringe, break yarn, and pull it through the remaining stitch to cast it off.

Steam the body of the poncho well, avoiding the fringe.

Unravel the fringe, two loops at a time and tie them together in a knot. Repeat for the remaining fringe.

Sew the "shoulder" seams using the mattress stitch.
