Sew Much Fun!!!

The Pine Ridge Jean Jacket Revival has come to an end, so we would like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to everyone who participated - we had SEW MUCH FUN!!! We had entries from kids and adults of all skill levels. The artistry is fantastic, original, stunning, and we're so proud of all the participants.

Check out the embellishments, the cutwork, the three dimensions, the colours. Really well done, we can't wait to see them out on the street and we're even more excited to see what they'll come up with next.

Quality never goes out of style ;)

This IS the App You're Looking For

At the last second, dispair sets in as you realize you forgot to make a sign for the annual lemonade sale! What on earth are you going to do?? Think of the KIDZ!!!

Row by Row, Here we Go!

Row by Row 2017 is officially On The Go at Pine Ridge. We want to thank everyone that came out today to see the unveiling of Laura's and Chloe's rows.

The only thing that remains un-official at this point, is which photo turned out the best?

The Rows

Stop by Pine Ridge anytime from now until September to get your 2017 On the Go Row, and don't forget that new this year is Row by Row Junior which is a great way to get the children in your life started with sewing.

Dressmakers Have Good Eyes

Here's something many of the Pine Ridgers may have already known, and now there's science to back it up...

Research Finds Dressmakers Have Good Eyes, And Not Just For Style

In a study that tested the vision of people from a variety of professions, researchers at the University of California, Berkeley found that dressmakers who spend many hours doing fine, manual work seemed to have a superior ability to see in 3-D.

Adrien Chopin, a postdoctoral researcher in visual neuroscience, made the discovery as he was testing the stereoscopic vision of about three dozen people, 13 of them dressmakers. We all use stereoscopic vision when we throw a ball to someone, grab a pencil or park a car, but Chopin noticed that some individuals have much better stereoscopic vision than others.

It's OK to be Fussy

Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself. In preparing for the Pine Ridge Oh Canada Wallhanging, I'd made a point of choosing a fabric with a tight design so the pattern would be clearly visible on the smaller pieces. Simple right? But last night, after quickly cutting the first piece, I took one look at it and...

- wait for it -

Ta Da! No Dots!

Laughed out loud, traced it again, got a little fussy this time, and... way better.

It's OK to be Fussy (sometimes).

Row by Row - On the Go!

"Row by Row On The Go! is 2017's theme and we'll be participating here at Pine Ridge Knit & Sew. We're super excited about Row by Row Experience's brand new program, Row by Row Junior, too!  It's designed for kids ages 6 to 14.  They travel along with an adult.  They collect free row patterns designed just for them to make and they can learn to sew at home with family help and support from www.rowbyrowexperience.com.

Row by Row Junior follows the same rules and time schedule as adult Row by Row Experience, June 21 through Labor Day.  Kids need to be in the shop to get the free pattern handout, but anyone can buy a kit.  Grandmothers and travelling family can bring them home as gifts or souvenirs.

Row by Row Junior designed the five different row patterns so you can be sure they are kid-friendly.  Make it an adventure traveling to collect all five and seeing how different shops make up their row.

The Pine Ridge Knit & Sew Row is "High Tops". Our sample was done by 10 year old Chloe Workman that we'll have on display at our Kick-Off event on June 21st at 10:00 AM.

Also note that the City of Quinte West is graciously donating a commemorative "City of Quinte" pin for every Row by Row kit that Pine Ridge creates. We want to send a great big THANK YOU to the city for continuing to support Quinte's Favourite Sewing Centre.

We'll be awarding "I Made This!" ribbons to the first five kids who return with something made using a Row by Row Junior pattern.  Any sewing effort will be celebrated, not just quilting.  Find Row by Row Junior's free online activities, kids' journal pages, support for learning to sew at home, and more at www.rowbyrowexperience.com this summer.

"We want our kids to learn how to sew and carry on this craft that's so dear to us," explains Janet Lutz, Row by Row's founder. "Travelling to new places, collecting something just for them, visiting Grandma, summer vacation... this is all part of the wonder and excitement of Row by Row Experience.  Please join us."
